Beyers Swanepoel to play for Titans despite ongoing CSA disciplinary process

The former Lions player remains eligible for selection despite a Cricket South Africa (CSA) disciplinary case against him entering its fifth month.

Swanepoel was charged on 3 April with a Level 4 offence for bringing the game into disrepute after leaving the One-Day Cup final on 29 March with seven overs still remaining to catch a flight to England, where he was due to join Worcestershire.

The Lions subsequently terminated his contract, although Swanepoel had informed their coaching staff on the day that he might need to depart early. He later apologised publicly to his former teammates and coaches.

An independent official is overseeing the disciplinary proceedings, but no conclusion date has been given. CSA CEO Pholetsi Moseki has previously voiced frustration over the delay.

"I wanted this finalised a while ago," said Moseki. "It has been going on forever."

Titans chief Jacques Faul said the franchise was also frustrated, but confirmed Swanepoel could play. SACA CEO Andrew Breetzke likewise said there was nothing preventing his selection, with the union assisting with his legal costs.

A Level 4 sanction could mean a ban of five four-day or 10 one-day matches, potentially jeopardising Swanepoel's SA20 prospects.
