Cricket South Africa declares 2027 World Cup plans on track

Richards was speaking at the conclusion of the CSA Annual General Meeting in Johannesburg on Saturday.

Over R300 Million has been invested into infrastructure upgrades across host venues, with South Africa contributing eight of the 12 host cities in a tournament co-hosted with Zimbabwe and Namibia.

Richards says while the final year of preparation will be more intense, they’re happy with the LOC’s progress so far.

"I'm very comfortable where we currently find ourselves. A lot of questions have been asked about the 2027 World Cup, and we deliberately created a separate company to ensure independence in the process and we are very confident that the 2027 World Cup will be a big success. At the same time, we are very aware that the road ahead is not going to be easy."

At the same time, Board Chairperson Pearl Maphoshe says they are working closely with the LOC, as the responsibility to organise the World Cup ultimately falls within Cricket SA’s commission by the ICC.

Vice-President Dr Mohammed Moosajee also rubber-stamped the state of readiness by the organisers, confirming that the ICC themselves have expressed satisfaction with the work done so far by the three neighbouring countries.

"I think from an ICC perspective, they are satisfied where Southern Africa is to host such a prestigious and historic event."
