Australia's Tim David on track for T20 World Cup despite 'minor' injury setback

Australia chief selector George Bailey says Tim David has a had a "minor setback" in his recovery from a hamstring injury but is still on track to be fit for the T20 World Cup.

The hard-hitting batter was not included in Australia's squad for the three-match T20 series in Pakistan ahead of the global tournament that starts early next month.

David, Pat Cummins and Josh Hazlewood are in the T20 World Cup squad that will not be part of the group for the games in Pakistan.

Hazlewood missed the entire Ashes at home due to a hamstring and Achilles issues while Cummins only played one Test following a lumbar stress injury.

Mahli Beardman and Jack Edwards could make there T20I debut in Pakistan with all three matches scheduled to to take place in Lahore.

"TD (David) had a very minor setback, I think last week, so didn't quite get through a running session that he was hoping to, but has since been cleared of any damage," Bailey said.

"It was just, I think, on the back of a heavy week. So he's still tracking for the start of the tournament.

"Josh is in the same boat and Pat's a little bit different ... he'll probably join that World Cup group a little bit later in the tournament, around game three or four."

The T20I series in Lahore take place between January 29 and February 1 while Australia's first game of the T20 World Cup is on February 11, in Colombo against Ireland.
