22-year-old Proteas all-rounder Marco Jansen earns ICC nomination

Rising Proteas fast bowler Marco Jansen has earned the nod from the Internation Cricket Council after being nominated among four youngsters for the Men's Emerging Cricketer of the Year award.

The ICC named the shortlist on Wednesday, while Jansen is currently active in South Africa's three-match Test series Down Under.

The 22-year-old talent broke through the international ranks in December 2021 when he caimed a maiden five-wicket haul on his debut in a Boxing Day Test against India.

He has not looked back since and claimed 41 wickets in nine matches so far, including one in the ongoing Boxing Day Test against Australia – in which he also contributed a maiden Test half-century with the bat in the first innings.

Jansen currently boasts a Test bowling average of 19.73 (as at time of publication) with a strike-rate of 36.1, while his three One-Day International (ODI) caps have yielded two wickets with 149 runs, with one wicket and 38 runs in one T20I.

The towering 2.06m-tall paceman has been nominated alongside Afghanistan's Ibrahim Zadran, New Zealand's Finn Allen and Arshdeep Singh of India.

Voting in the ICC Awards 2022 will commence in early January 2023, where a wider selection of global media representatives, the ICC Voting Academy, will submit their selections alongside global cricket fans, who will once again be encouraged to vote at icc-cricket.com for their winners.
