Zungu was speaking after the announcement of their new deal with the Dutch beverage company, which was unveiled at the Moses Mabhida Stadium as Usuthu’s new sleeve sponsors.
Royal House's Chancellor was also present at the announcement today, and Zungu says it sends a good message to their new partners about the standing of their club in the province...
"It is an absolute honour and privilege for us to announce a new partnership with a global brand like Amstel who are stepping in as the sleeve sponsors of AmaZulu for the long term. We consider ourselves a legacy brand and we consider ourselves as able representatives of our heritage and today was the official announcement of a relationship we have been negotiating for quite some time now, and it's a relationship that really makes sense for everyone involved."
AmaZulu, who are also doing very well in the Betway Premiership, sitting third on the log behind Mamelodi Sundowns and Orlando Pirates, are also positioning themselves as one of the leading brands in football.
Usuthu recently won two awards at the Loeries Brand Awards, and the club’s CEO, Sinenjabulo Zungu, says this new deal aligns with the commercial standards they have set as a club and that the team's performance is also helping.
It’s been just over a year since Amstel entered South African football, after they partnered with Orlando Pirates, and renamed Orlando Stadium to Orlando Amstel Arena.
Kavir Gangiah is the Head of Consumer Experience and Sponsorships at Heineken Beverages and says fan experience is one main focus in these deals, as he shares the plans they have for this weekend’s Soweto Derby (Pirates vs Kaizer Chiefs) and Durban derby (AmaZulu vs Golden Arrows).
"Amstel is all about driving that connection between the fans and the club, and this is a melting pot of experiences that Amstel wants to be a part of. AmaZulu is after all a passionate football club with a rich history. For this weekend, we have the fan village in People's Park where the game will be showed and we look forward to hosting all the fans."
