We need a consistent team – Gavin Hunt

SuperSport United coach Gavin Hunt believes the best way to challenge for a Top 2 position in the DStv Premiership is to have a consistent team.

The Tshwane side have been without some of their key players for the better part of the campaign as they juggle domestic and continental football.

Following their 1-1 draw against log leaders Mamelodi Sundowns on Tuesday night, Hunt discussed his approach for the rest of the season.

''Take more from the Diski team, the good thing is when you look at the squad - we need our best selves. If we can't - we go young, and there's a lot to learn,'' said Hunt.

The stalemate against crosstown rivals Sundowns at Loftus Stadium took SuperSport to 33 points to tie them with second placed Orlando Pirates.

Hunt isn’t going to abandon relying on the club’s youngsters, insisting the only way to grow is to be paired with their seniors.

''When Ime plays like he did tonight [last night] and plays next to Tyson he learns a lot, you know. It is important to have figures which youngsters can learn a lot from,'' added Hunt.

Matsatsantsa ended in third place behind Sundowns and Pirates last season, securing a spot in the CAF Confederation Cup.

Hunt says they can’t aim higher if their spine is unavailable.

''But we need him out on the field, we can't afford to miss him. We can but when you look at the squads, you will see that their squads are stronger than our squad,'' he concluded.

A four-times league title winner, Hunt is going to count on experience.
