TUT coach approaching title talk with caution

TUT Matsatsantsa coach Christina Kutumela is not entertaining any talk of being title contenders just yet, despite being the closest team to Mamelodi Sundowns in the Hollywoodbets Super League.

TUT thrashed Royal AM 5-2 at the Tuks stadium yesterday, and that win kept Kutumela’s side to within just four points of the defending champions, albeit having played two games more than Sundowns.

She says it’s difficult to say they are going for the championship, especially since they’ve dropped points easily this season.

"Right now and at this stage of the season, we could've had more points because there were games we should've won.

"The confidence and belief to challenge for the title would have been even greater, had we not lost to First Touch, and not dropped points against City Lads. There is still hope however," believes Kutumela.

It might be easier to remain calm for the coach, but the players will be looking at the log and sizing up Sundowns, who are on 38 points at the moment after their win over Durban Ladies.

Although she would love a shot at the title, Kutumela tries so prepare her players for disappointment.

"The mentality of our players is amazing, but they should always be alert to possible disappointment down the line."

She says they also work on their mental fitness to prepare them for when things are not going their way.

TUT have collected 34 points after 18 matches played, and the coach has warned that they won’t always get the points.

The Pretoria side was on the right side of a seven-goal thriller, but it didn’t start that way as Royal AM scored first.

Mamokgaase Senyatsi then scored a hat-trick for TUT to add to the other two goals.
