Tinkler not getting carried away by Sekhukhune hot start

Sekhukhune United coach Eric Tinkler has urged his players to maintain greater consistency if they are to turn their early-season form into a lasting title challenge.

Babina Noko left it late to secure all three Betway Premiership points against Golden Arrows at the Peter Mokaba Stadium on Saturday, with veteran striker Bradley Grobler netting the decisive goal.

Tinkler said sitting top of the table after seven matches reflects the team’s hard work but cautioned that the campaign is still in its infancy.

"I think it is very important for us to remain grounded and not to allow our recent success to go to our heads - both as players and technical staff.

"We have worked very hard to get to where we are, but that work must now continue."

Tinkler revealed that his technical team had considered substituting Grobler before his goal, but he insisted the evergreen forward stay on – a decision that paid off.

"He is called the sniper for a reason, and we were considering taking him off in the last ten minutes, and the technical team were asking me if we should take him off, and I said no, no, no, not today. We needed him in those final minutes."

The Babina Noko mentor also confirmed news that defender Tsepo Matsimbi would be out of action for two months.

Tinkler was equally encouraged by the way his side built on their 3-1 triumph over Kaizer Chiefs at FNB Stadium just days earlier, rather than easing off.
