Thlopie Motsepe comments on special FIFA transfer window

Mamelodi Sundowns chairman Thlopie Motsepe says the club will make use of the exceptional player registration period next month only if necessary.

With The Brazilians heading to the FIFA Club World Cup in the USA, the world football governing body has allowed all 32 teams participating in the competition to sign players in the lead up to the global event.

Sundowns have been drawn in Group F alongside Korean outfit Ulsan HD, Borussia Dortmund of Germany and Fluminense from Brazil.

Motsepe, speaking at the launch of their new partnership with Carling Black Label, explained why Downs are unlikely to recruit this early.

"It's an exciting initiative by FIFA to allow clubs to recruit players before the start of the Club World Cup. As a fan of the game, I think every fan will be excited to see another transfer window that happens during this period of the year.

"The squad that we have right now is very stable, and there is great chemistry in the group, everybody is aligned to the vision of what we want to achieve in the Club World Cup. That's not to say we are not going to be looking at any potential players in the transfer market. At the moment, the team is strong and confident, so it's going to take someone special to convince us to make a move," stated the Sundowns chairman.

Motsepe suggested there would be a review of the squad after the Club World Cup for Cardoso to get a chance to recommend potential targets ahead of the 2025/2026 Premier Soccer League season.

"Due to the nature of our season, our pre-season will be cut short, so it will be important to find opportunities to bring in new players, and give Miguel Cardoso the pre season he didn't have," said Motsepe.

The chairman also reassured Sundowns supporters that the club will still beef up the team, but perhaps not in time for their opening game in America.

"We'll go into the market when the time is right, and we'll look for the type of player that can compliment what we're trying to achieve. We have a wonderful technical director, and we'll make sure that the Sundown's you saw this season, will be even stronger next season," stressed the chairman.

Sundowns will now travel to Cairo for the second leg of the CAF Champions League against Egyptian side Pyramids after drawing 1-1 at Loftus Stadium.

Motsepe says they are eager to arrive at the Club World Cup as title holders.
