The making of elite talent, Relebohile Mofokeng, at School of Excellence

Once the teenage sensation Relebohile Mofokeng is fully settled in the Orlando Pirates senior team, expect to see a lot of goals from him.

These are the words of one of his former coaches at the School of Excellence (SOE) Lazarus Kgosana, who was speaking to SABC Sport during the Gauteng Schools Champions League in Soweto recently.

Kgosana followed Mofokeng’s development at the SOE very closely before he joined the Pirates juniors last year.

He made his debut for Bucs towards the end of last season featuring in two matches, Kgosana says the Ghost can expect some goals from the young lad.

"We are going to see a lot of goals from him. Once he's settled in that Pirates team and the players that play around him at Pirates as well. So, I think he made a good decision by going to Pirates as well," Kgosana said.

"All the players that have gone to different teams I think they settle in nicely in there because now when you looking at Relebohile, technically I think even the senior players there they admire the way he's playing.

So, that makes him settle even a bit quicker in the club. He'll do well, I'll be happy to see him playing even for Bafana Bafana in the near future and that I think is gonna happen very, very soon."

After scoring his first goal in topflight football during the 4-0 win over AmaZulu towards the end of last season and also contributing an assist, Mofokeng has started this season like a house on fire at Bucs.

He has already played a total of seven matches this season and starting most of these games. It’s also the brand of football that Mofokeng plays which has endeared him to the Ghost and Kgosana says this comes from the values of SOE.

"Ya, I think still on Relebohile, I think he's one player that is technically sound, tactically clever as well when in possession of the ball, he's great. He can see things that other players can't see in the field of play.

He passes well, he can dribble, and he can make good decisions when he's in possession of the ball. So, he's a good player but as for the school the way we are playing, we always encourage players to not make enemies with football.

Make friends with football, take care of football. One day football will take care of you. So always caress the ball, enjoy it, and have fun, that's what we strive for at the school."
