Ouaddou demands more ahead of hectic schedule

Ouaddou was speaking to the media at the Orlando Amstel Arena, just after wrapping up their preparations for tomorrow’s CAF Champions League first preliminary round, second-leg game against Mauritius side La Cure Waves. 

A few weeks ago, Ouaddou sent a rallying call to his strikers to step up and show their level, and there’s been an immediate response, exactly what he was looking for...

"I'm very happy. Sometimes when you make this call publicly, you as the coach can touch the players in a different way compared to the normal internal meetings. 

"Now the most important thing is consistency, you cannot be up and down. You need consistency in the league and in the CAF Champions League."

Boitumelo Radiopane has scored two goals in the last three matches, and Yanela Mbuthuma scored a brace in the last Betway Premiership match against Kruger United. 

Ouaddou is challenging them to be more consistent now, as they push to defend their league title and also make an impact in the CAF Champions League this season.

Pirates were held to a goalless draw in Port Louis last weekend, but in this second leg they are looking to do things differently. Ouaddou says last weekend he afforded some youthful talent at the club a chance, especially from the bench, and tomorrow he’s changing gears and chasing progression to the next stage with an offensive team...

"We went there to get a result or to at least score a goal, but we didn't. I can tell you that in the first game it was important for me to give opportunities to some players because it's important to keep everyone involved in a project. We win matches with eleven players, but we win titles with a group of players. Some of the young players gave me great satisfaction last week, which means that I can call on them when I need them.

"Tomorrow is a different game and we will definitely reveal the attacking profiles of our players."

The winner of this game will play the winner of Gabonese side Mangasport and Namibia’s African Stars, with the Central Africans having won the first leg at home 3-1 last weekend.
