Thabo September hails mentality of Chippa players after upsetting Kaizer Chiefs

Chippa United co-coach Thabo September has hailed the mentality of his players after they registered a well-deserved 2-0 win over Kaizer Chiefs in a DStv Premiership match played at the Buffalo City stadium in East London yesterday.

After having beaten a bottom-placed Cape Town Spurs by the same score margin earlier in the week, the Chillie Boys delivered again against a top team, in the top half of the log table.

Goals from Bienvenu Eva Nga and Sinoxolo Kwayiba were the difference in this game. September says they have worked hard on the mentality of the players.

"Yeah, no definitely when we came in, we said if we beat top teams and we lose to the bottom teams, that's relegation but if you fight hard against the bottom teams and you show as well that you deserve to be [in the national team]. We've got players that are playing in the national team Stanley [Nwabali], so they can't be choosing games or the mentality needs to be right and that has been good. When we got in we worked on the mentality and the players responded very well," September said.

In the last three home league matches, Chippa United have used the home advantage effectively scoring seven goals and keeping clean sheets in all those games.

September says it’s important that they continue this dominant performance in front of their home fans.

"It was a good performance from the whole team I think, you're forgetting the clean sheet as well so two goals, clean sheet at home, it's really a statement. I'm so happy and proud of the players and what they have done,” September added.

“I'm extremely happy that we are scoring goals, I think at home we've scored eight goals in four games that is a good turn around and I think with three clean sheets and conceding only one so that is something that we are proud of and we want to keep it like that towards the end of the season."

More than 16,000 spectators braved the rainy weather conditions in the coastal Eastern Cape city to come to watch entertaining football as the hosts turned on the magic.
