Tactically disciplined Sekhukhune United extend winning streak to five matches

Sekhukhune United’s impressive run in the DStv Premiership continued unabated last night as they beat Orlando Pirates 2-1 at the Peter Mokaba Stadium in Polokwane, to extend their winning streak to five victories in a row.

Babina Noko shot up to the third spot on the log standings, as they managed to clinch this six-pointer.

Goals from Vusumuzi Ncube and captain and man of the match Linda Mntambo were enough to seal this result.

Head coach Lehlohonolo Seema says credit must go to his players for adhering to the tactical plan for this game.

"Credit must go the boys, I think tactically they came to the party and we stuck to what we agreed on and the credit must go to the players because they're the ones that are working very hard," Seema said.

"We're not even counting the past games, we are taking it one game at a time, it was one game that we wanted to win because we know that even if we had won today, the margins are so close that if we lost the next two games, you find yourself in a difficult position. So, we are happy with the win because it's giving us three points but there's still a long way to go."

Seema, a former Pirates captain has justified why they had to play percentage football to get the desired result.

They led 2-0 quickly after halftime and Tshegofatso Mabasa quickly pulled one back for the visitors.

But it’s the tactical discipline that followed from Seema’s boys, which he says was part of their overall plan for the game.

"I think Orlando Pirates came today, they could have won it, not even a draw, they could have won it but because we knew that we'll have to suffer without the ball and we were prepared to suffer without the ball and give them the ball. We knew that if we could work without the ball, we stand a good chance of getting one or two goals and I think it came like that. Overall, I'm happy with the performance," the coach explained.

Sekhukhune’s next two matches will be against Cape Town City and Stellenbosch FC respectively two teams that are direct competitors for them for the CAF Champions League spot.
