SuperSport United coach urges players to give their all in Golden Arrows clash

SuperSport United interim coach Andre Arendse says all focus now shifts to their final league fixture, a replayed match against Golden Arrows, where only the second half will be played, starting at 1-1.

SuperSport remain in serious relegation danger following their 2-0 defeat to Richards Bay FC at the Old Peter Mokaba Stadium.

The loss leaves them in 15th position on the Betway Premiership log, a spot that would see them contest the promotion/relegation play-offs if results don’t go their way.

Arendse unpacks the significance of the final clash against Abafana Bes’thende.

"There are a couple of elements that we've gotta think about going into that game. We're going to only one half. We got into it with one point already, which is more or less what we need, for example,” Arendse said.

“So, we have to go into the game with that mindset but at the same time, we cannot afford to be on the back foot. So, we cannot afford to close up shop because then we are going to invite unnecessary pressure and when you do that, you are prone to mistakes.

“We cannot afford one single mistake in that half of football that's to come."

With their top-flight status hanging by a thread, Arendse says it’s time to call on players with big-match temperament.

"But I believe we can win it and more so than technical and tactical ability, going into that game, I think big match temperament. I'm looking for big hearts, big match temperament because for me right now, at this stage of the season, when there's one half of the game to go, you need players who are going to step up and have big match temperament. We need to find out who those players are in the next couple of days," the coach added.
