Stellenbosch FC and Golden Arrows share the spoils in PSL clash

Stellenbosch FC and Golden Arrows clashed in a DStv Premiership encounter that ultimately ended in a goalless draw on Saturday afternoon.

Stellenbosch made tactical adjustments for the game, bringing in Athenkosi Mcaba and introducing Ivorian winger Anicet Oura to the starting line-up, a decision that hinted at their intent to disrupt the Arrows' rhythm.

On the other side, Arrows retained the line-up that had previously thrashed SuperSport United 3-0, with Lungelo Nguse leading the offensive charge ahead of former Kaizer Chiefs striker Ryan Moon.

The early exchanges saw both teams adopting a conservative approach, with the Arrows dominating possession but struggling to penetrate the final third.

Stellenbosch, on the other hand, pressed high, making it challenging for the home side to orchestrate meaningful attacks. However, Stellies themselves found it difficult to connect with their frontmen, including Iqraam Rayners, Andre de Jong, and Genino Palace.

As the first half drew to a close, Stellenbosch gained momentum, and Palace came agonizingly close to breaking the deadlock with a lofted shot that narrowly missed the top corner.

Coach Mabhuti Khenyeza introduced Moon at halftime in place of Nguse, a move that injected fresh energy into the Golden Arrows' forward line. Moon's impact was immediate, as he registered the first shot on target, only to be denied by goalkeeper Sage Stephens.

The match faced a brief stoppage when Deano van Rooyen suffered a concussion injury and had to be stretchered off the field, replaced by Mashweu Mphahlele.

In the closing stages, the game hung in the balance. Iqraam Rayners had a golden opportunity to secure all three points for Stellenbosch, but his point-blank shot was expertly thwarted by the agile Ismael Watenga.

Despite late chances for both teams, the contest ended in a 0-0 deadlock. Golden Arrows' second-place position on the table was confirmed for the weekend, as their closest competitors, SuperSport United, were not in domestic action.
