The 31-year-old approached the SA Football Players’ Union [SAFPU] earlier this year to assist in obtaining his clearance following Spurs’ relegation to the ABC Motsepe League in May, a demotion that automatically activates NSL Rule 43, allowing players to terminate contracts with clubs that become amateur entities.
However, Spurs, who previously challenged similar cases involving Liam Bern, Asanele Velebayi, Luke Baartman, and Mervin Boji, contested Moosa’s right to leave.¨
As reported by the public broadcaster, Kaizer Chiefs have since been cleared to officially register and field Velebayi and Baartman after advocate Hilton Epstein upheld the PSL Dispute Resolution Chamber (DRC)’s earlier ruling in their favour.
Spurs told SABC Sport this week they were still seeking legal advice on whether to proceed with their appeals concerning Bern and Boji.¨
Meanwhile, the DRC issued its latest award this morning, granting Moosa free-agent status on the same basis as his teammates.
“The applicant is declared a free agent in terms of Rule 43 of the NSL handbook and is eligible to join and be registered with a club of his choosing,” read the ruling by DRC chairperson advocate Mosupi Mashele.
Moosa made over 50 appearances for Spurs across the topflight and lower divisions, and it remains to be seen whether the club will contest this latest decision at SAFA.
