Tough reception expected as Remo Stars offer free entry for Downs fixture

Mamelodi Sundowns utility player Thapelo Morena says the team is expecting a hostile atmosphere when they face Nigerian side Remo Stars, who have announced free entry for supporters ahead of Sunday’s CAF Champions League encounter.

The Brazilians return to continental action for the first time since losing the final to Pyramids over two legs in June.

Morena believes Remo Stars’ decision to open the gates reflects their determination to make their home advantage count, especially after having extra time to prepare during the FIFA break.

"Remo Stars wanted to get an upper hand, because if you postpone your two games leading up to a game like this, and grant free entry, it shows the magnitude of the game.

"For us, we are going there to do the business."

Stars suffered a 3-1 defeat in their previous domestic league game against Katsina United, but Morena says this will have no bearing on their CAF match.

"Featuring in a game like this forces the opposition to forget about what happened before, and it gives them a real boost, but for us, we will just be looking to exploit their weaknesses."

Morena added that the long-standing rivalry between Bafana Bafana and the Super Eagles could spill over into this clash between Sundowns and Remo Stars.

The 32-year-old also reflected on being part of the Bafana squad that sealed qualification for the FIFA World Cup in America next year.

"It's a great feeling. As a footballer, you aspire to achieve great things and to be a part of a FIFA World Cup."
