Seth Green seals permanent Orlando Pirates exit

SABC Sport can confirm that Orlando Pirates and Durban City have reached an agreement over the permanent transfer of attacking midfielder Seth Green ahead of the 2026/27 season.

The 22-year-old spent some time on loan at Upington City two campaigns ago, where he enjoyed regular game time in the Motsepe Foundation Championship and did enough to convince another Betway Premiership side to pursue a permanent move.

Green first rose to prominence in the DStv Diski Challenge, where his impressive performances for the Pirates reserve side earned him recognition as one of the league's brightest young talents.

He was voted into the Carling All-Star team by supporters and was also invited to train with the Buccaneers' senior squad during José Riveiro's tenure with the Buccaneers.

Despite his progress, Green was unable to make a competitive first-team appearance for the Soweto giants.

In a bid to accelerate his development, the club opted to send him out on loan, believing consistent senior football would aid his growth.

The midfielder began his playing journey at La Masia FC before joining Orlando Pirates' reserve team in 2024, where he quickly established himself as one of the club's standout prospects.

Although there had been reported interest from other Betway Premiership clubs, including Magesi FC and Polokwane City previously, the public broadcaster understands Durban City moved decisively to secure his services on a permanent basis.

The transfer represents a fresh opportunity for Green to establish himself in the top flight as Durban City begin a new era under coach Khalil Ben Youssef.

It also allows Pirates to continue streamlining their squad while giving another promising academy product the platform to further his career with regular first-team football.
