While Zungu has not yet been formally announced as a candidate, he has been heavily linked with running for the presidency to try and unseat the incumbent Danny Jordaan.
Ledwaba, who made the attempt herself but was defeated back in 2022, confirmed that she will not have another go at it and believes Zungu is the perfect person to take the association forward.
"There comes a point when you look at the contribution that you have made and now you can only be there to advise. There is Sandile Zungu who can stand up, but I don't know if he's been approached by the LFA's out there. I think he is a good administrator, and if he can get support from the regions I believe he can make an impact."
Ledwaba went on to say that Zungu’s business acumen puts him head and shoulders above the rest, and implored the regions to give him the support to be able to run for the post.
Ledwaba, one of the most respected football administrators in the country in her own right, added that a combination of Zungu and a good CEO will be able to get SAFA out of their financial struggles. Nasrec’s shallow pockets have been well documented in recent years, and have even struggled to meet their obligations to their own regions.
"There are people who could come into that organisation as proper CEOs, because remember when sponsors give they don't give to the Ria Ledwaba Foundation for example, but rather to Ria because they trust and believe."
She went on to urge some of the local legends to put their hands up and challenge the status quo, pointing to Cameroon stalwart Samuel Eto’o as an example they should try to follow.
