Amazulu kept their form alive with a victory over Stellenbosch FC and Polokwane earned a late win over Golden Arrows in Wednesday night's Betway Premiership action.
Hendrick Ekstein on the double for Usuthu
Amazulu extended their unbeaten run to four matches when they defeated Stellenbosch 2-1 in Durban. A dull affair finally came to life near the ned of the opening stanza. Debutante Thaniso Kutumela fired a cross that found Ekstein, who in turn found the back of the net.
Then in the dying embers of the half, Ekstein found the back of the net once again. A lapse in defence left a gaping hole for the midfielder to glide through, after which he fired at the near post to beat Stellenbosch stopper Sage Stephens.
Stellenbosch substitute Langelihle Phili made an immediate impact off the bench, executing a sharp finish in the box in the 52nd minute. But Amazulu would hold on for the win,
Polokwane leave it late against Golden Arrows
Rise and Shine earned their second win of the season with a thrilling 2-1 victory over a ten-man Golden Arrows at Old Peter Makoba Stadium.
However, it was Arrows that did all the playing early on, resulting in Luthando Ndlovu showing good skill to dodge one defender and finish on the 30-minute mark.
But a moment of madness changed the game in the second half. Arrows goalkeeper Xolani Ngcobo was shown a straight red card for handling the ball outside the area. From there, Polokwane used their numerical advantage and drew matters via a powerful strike from Bonginkosi Dlamini. They then broke Arrows' hearts with a 96th-minute goal from veteran Puleng Marema to snatch the victory.
Missed opportunity for Richards Bay
A late penalty miss cost Richards Bay a victory as they drew 1-1 with TS Galaxy at King Zwelithini Stadium.
Wandile Ngema was the first to open the scoring for the Natal Rich Boys, catching the defence napping and finding the back of the net. But TS Galaxy rallied and midfielder Mlungisi Mbunjana produced a smart finish to level the match going into the break.
Both teams struggled on attack in the second half and the tie looked to be headed for a draw until Richards Bay was awarded a penalty in the 88th minute. But the Rockets' goalkeeper was up to the task. Gloveman Ira Tape saved Tshepo Mabua's penalty effort and the teams shared the spoils.
