Paulus Masehe backs Sekhukhune United revival

Sekhukhune United interim coach Paulus Masehe believes his side still have enough quality to secure a top four finish with two Betway Premiership matches remaining.

Babina Noko’s hopes suffered another setback on Sunday after they slumped to a 2-0 home defeat against Kaizer Chiefs, who secured third spot in the process.

Sekhukhune had targeted a third-place finish and silverware prior to Eric Tinkler’s dismissal, but Masehe remains confident his side can end the campaign strongly.

"To be honest, for the players it's a bit disappointing because they remained among the top pack for the longest time this season, and they would have deserved to finish number three of four," said Masehe.

"But we still have a chance to finish number four, which I think would be fair for us and for them as well because they have worked extremely hard, they deserve something better this season.

"They've given everything, even [against Chiefs] I cannot falter anyone, the effort was there, the mistakes that happened was part of football – you can make mistakes and get punished at the other end.

"But, as for the boys, I wish that we can just win these last two games and we finish number four so that we can compliment their good effort this season."

Masehe insisted that the only way to improve results in the remaining matches against Richards Bay and Siwelele is to lower demands and afford the players rest.

"Something we need to do that we didn't get a chance to do is to rest the players – we'll let them rest and see them when they are fresher," he argued.

"There are only two games left, there's no need to train that much and they can be fresher against Richards Bay, because when they are fresh, most definitely they will give you 100 percent.

"But it wasn't to be [in the last match], we tried and they tried also, it wasn't to be because you could see their legs had given in – from [Lesiba] Nku to Tshepo Mokoane, [Olerato] Mandi, already in the first half you could see their legs had given in."
