Ouaddou: Ready to die on the pitch for the league title

Orlando Pirates head coach Abdeslam Ouaddou says his team is prepared to die with their boots on, in this Betway Premiership title race.

Ouaddou was speaking to the media after their 2-0 win over Richards Bay FC at the Orlando Amstel Arena, which returned them to the top of the log.

The Buccaneers are tied on 47 points with Mamelodi Sundowns but are slightly ahead on goal difference with 10 games to go in this campaign.

Ouaddou looks at their performance in this game...

"We were not so efficient with the last pass, in the last third and in the heart of the game. We lost some crucial balls that maybe could've been punished by the opposition in the transitions, but in the end when you sometimes feel like you cannot score the second goal we took the decision to close up shop.

"We take these three points because it's a very important result in this title race, and I want to congratulate the boys again for their character."

With the two teams matching each other in a number of areas, Sundowns have scored more goals and Pirates have conceded less, and there’s going to be very little separating the two teams in the end.

Ouaddou was asked about the importance of tactical discipline during this business end of the title race from his squad.

"Sometimes when you have too much talent and you want to have control, but you play against this profile of a team that is defensive and a very tactically disciplined team, you need to be disciplined. Especially in the counter-pressing."

Oswin Appollis and a late penalty from Evidence Makgopa were the important goals that ensured that the Buccaneers returned to the summit of the log.

The ever cheerful and colourful centreline Pirates fans brought a banner that paid tribute to their fallen fellow Buccaneer, Charles “Makhalanjalo” Fantisi, who passed away recently.

Ouaddou says they dedicate this win to the late Fantisi and his family...
