Pirates had the lion’s share of the ball possession, but it didn’t translate into goals against a resolute Sekhukhune defense.
The visitors’ goal came from midfielder Siphesihle Mkhize in a goalmouth scramble as Pirates failed to clear their lines.
Ouaddou says there were some missing elements in their game, as compared to their 2-0 win over Polokwane City in the MTN8 last week.
"Unfortunately, we didn't start the way we wanted to. We were a different team once we started chasing the game.
"I think we have seen some interesting things in this match, despite the loss," said the new Buccanneer boss.
Despite their dominance in this game, Pirates only had three shots on target, and Ouaddou says the lack of efficiency in the final third proved to be their undoing.
But he also had some encouraging words for his boys that they will have to quickly bounce back from this defeat when they meet his former team, Marumo Gallants, in Bloemfontein on Tuesday evening.
"The truth about football is that you have to be efficient in the box, and if you aren't, the opponent can finish you.
"I said to the boys that we must play a quicker style of football in our next match."
Missing from Pirates’ match day squads in the first two matches of the season has been their top goal scorer from last season, Tshegofatso Mabasa.
Ouaddou confirmed that there’s nothing wrong with his fitness levels, but he’s just been giving other players a chance.
"Mabasa is available and ready for selection, but his absence was due to a tactical decision. When we call on him, he will be able to perform like we know he can."
After having watched defending champions Mamelodi Sundowns also drop points earlier on the day as they were held to a one-all draw by Chippa United in Gqeberha, Pirates failed to capitalise at home.
Ouaddou says it’s proof that this season will be tough, with margins getting narrower between the teams.
