No Sekhukhune stars in Bafana squad - Eric Tinkler responds

Sekhukhune United coach Eric Tinkler says he understands why Bafana Bafana boss Hugo Broos opted not to include any of his players in the squad for the upcoming FIFA World Cup qualifiers.

Babina Noko currently sit at the top of the Betway Premiership after five matches and had several players named in Broos’ preliminary squad.

However, when the final 23-man team was announced, no Sekhukhune players made the cut.

Despite that, Tinkler – a former Bafana star himself – insists he is not disappointed by the decision.

"I'm not surprised by this because the national team is doing well. If the national team is doing well, why would you chop and change players?

"You have to give the existing squad members the opportunities to prove why they are doing well, and if the form of the team starts to dip, then you can start looking at other players. For me, it's no surprise at all."

Broos had also praised Sekhukhune’s style of play so far this season, but Tinkler insisted they are far from being the finished product.

"We can still be better on the ball, because sometimes we tend to give it away cheaply, which puts us under unnecessary pressure, so there is still a lot of room for improvement in terms of how we play."

Meanwhile, Tinkler believes Babina Noko may still take advantage of the fact that the transfer window is still open until 22 September.

"I can never say never, because there is still the possibility of one or two new signings. We do have the opportunity to look at a few players who are coming for an assessment during this international break."
