Ndlovu draws inspiration from Pape Gueye as Amakhosi target maximum points in Ndola

Kaizer Chiefs midfielder Siphesihle Ndlovu has singled out the Senegalese midfield duo of Pape Gueye and Idrissa Gana Gueye as the players who caught his attention during the recently concluded 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) tournament in Morocco.

Gueye, who plays for Villareal in the Spanish La Liga, scored the only goal during the ill-tempered AFCON final against the hosts at the Prince Moulay Abdullah stadium in Rabat last Sunday. Ndlovu says the two Gueyes and Egypt’s Zizo were so interesting to watch for him...

"Pape Gueye was impressive, the left footed player who scored the winning goal in the final, and Gana Gueye was interesting to watch because of how he defends and how he fights for his team. Zizo is also great and I picked up a few things from him too."

The midfield tussles in the AFCON are where most battles are fought, won and lost.

Ndlovu says how some of the midfield combinations are shaped at that level is something he couldn't ignore, as most teams play as a unit.

"I analysed and picked up a few tactics and player strategies by watching the AFCON. When I looked at most of the teams, they were playing as a unit, and they were so competitive that you couldn't really tell who was going to win the game. If you combine a fighter, with your skilful players, something great can come out of that."

After producing a man of the match performance in his first Betway Premiership match this year, as they beat Golden Arrows 1-0 in the week, Ndlovu says this weekend’s game away to Zesco United is key to their CAF Confederation Cup campaign, as they are still searching for their first win in the group stages.

Chiefs are currently third in group D, with only two points from as many matches; failure to pick up maximum points in Ndola on Sunday could affect their chances of reaching the last eight, something Ndlovu is also aware of...
