Miguel Cardoso reflects on Mamelodi Sundowns record eighth title

The Brazilians clinched the Betway Premiership title with a game to spare on Wednesday night when they beat Chippa United 3-0 at Buffalo Stadium in East London. 

Cardoso, who arrived in December seven games into the season, shared the feelings and how they went about a relatively untroubled race.

"Great feeling, great emotions, great sensations. I think we lived [through] a lot of wonderful emotions and we brought the feelings we needed to the team," said Cardoso.

"I think happiness and values we developed in the locker room, and how we overcame the worst moments really developed among us a good sense of love and brotherhood.

"The period that made it feel wonderful to live in this locker room has been a pleasure over this last month, and I think when we arrived it was clear that was something we needed to change – mostly the energy.

"It was nothing to do with the work of the previous coaches, who I respect so much, because it was not a matter of results but really the [atmosphere]. 

"We invested a lot in the relations because football is not only the way you touch the ball but how you connect yourself with the players, the staff and with the club, and I think that was the key. 

"The ambience and spirit has made it a wonderful experience in South Africa, a wonderful experience to be at Mamelodi Sundowns, and a wonderful experience to work with this group of players."

Sundowns are now expected to be formally crowned at Loftus Stadium in their final home game of the campaign after they host Magesi FC on Sunday evening at 17:00.
