Maseko says greater intensity will be needed against Czechia

As Bafana Bafana finalise their preparations in Pachuca today for their next 2026 FIFA World Cup game against Czechia, Cyprus-based attacker Thapelo Maseko has identified the need for intensity as the area of focus.

Speaking to the South African media covering the World Cup in Mexico, USA, and Canada yesterday, Maseko says some of the matches that they have been watching since their 2-0 loss to Mexico last Thursday have given them an idea of where to improve, which is intensity...

"The one thing that we have to improve is our intensity during the match. The intensity at this World Cup is very high, there are many high speed runs and the altitude is also a factor. We have to run extra hard and give a little bit more effort in this upcoming game."

One thing that Bafana have shown under Broos is that they can always bounce back when they’ve got their back against the wall, and most of the players who have engineered comebacks are still in the team now. This is what Maseko is banking on.

Good news for Bafana is that the weather temperatures in Atlanta for the next few days is not that high, with some rain showers expected.

Following their opening loss to Mexico, Bafana Bafana have come in for a lot of criticism, and this is when they need the nation behind them. Maseko shares the pain of not getting enough support from back home...

"Something that I've picked up as a South African who has grown up in different cultures and environments is that South Africans are happy when you win. When you lose, you are the worst - that's a fact."
