Marumo Gallants plan for Stellenbosch FC revealed

Marumo Gallants midfielder Ndabayithethwa Ndlondlo says they know exactly what to expect when they take on Stellenbosch FC in the Carling Knockout Cup last eight tomorrow.

The match at Dr Petrus Molemela Stadium in Bloemfontein will be the last of the quarter-final clashes, with Lamontville Golden Arrows and Richards Bay FC having already booked their semifinal spots.

Ndlondlo says the plan is to starve the 2023 CKO champions of the ball for as long as possible and wait for the right moments to attack.

"Obviously we're looking to take control in the midfield because we know Stellenbosch is not a ball-playing team, they're more based on transition, so we need to take control in the midfield and dominate them," said Ndlondlo.

"But we know it's not going to be easy playing against the low block of Stellies that are looking to play on transition, with the moments we'll be getting, we're looking to capitalise more on that and take initiative."

He also revealed that they did their homework on Stellies and saw their match against Equatorial Guinea’s 15 de Agosto in the CAF Confederation Cup, where the Western Cape side found the back of the net four times.

According to the diminutive midfielder, they have figured out how to nullify their threat.

"We had an opportunity to watch them play in their previous game in the CAF Confed [on Sunday], so I think we stand a better chance of having the upper hand in this game we're going to play, with what we need to do," he added.

"With the opportunities we need to take and the game plan we have for them, it's going to be important for us to focus more on that and focus on ourselves and what we need to do. The rest of the things we'll show on the field of play."

The match will be broadcast LIVE on SABC 2, SABC + App and sabc-plus.com from 18:30 on Wednesday evening.
