Modiba joined The Brazilians from crosstown rivals SuperSport United five years ago and has been a regular feature since then, including being an integral part of the Bafana Bafana squad that won bronze at the Africa Cup of Nations in Cote d’Ivoire early last year.
Following the continental tournament there were murmurs of interest in Modiba outside the Premier Soccer League, but nothing official materialised and he was part of the championship winning team at Sundowns yet again.
The Tshwane giants had until May 31 to exercise the option to hold on to Modiba until June 2026 – with yet another clause to extend that deal for another season if they so wish.
According to information gathered by the public broadcaster, Modiba remains a Sundowns player and it’s believed the two parties will open discussions on having a long-term deal for the 29-year-old.
Modiba has by now clocked over 150 matches for Sundowns and could reach yet another milestone with the club this weekend if they beat Pyramids in the second leg of the CAF Champions League to win the club competition.
