Maguire back, Yoro uncertain as Carrick prepares Man Utd for Brentford clash

The manager welcomes the return of Harry Maguire, who had missed recent matches through suspension but is now available again. 

His comeback provides a timely boost after last weekend's narrow 1-0 victory over Chelsea, where Noussair Mazraoui filled in alongside Ayden Heaven in central defence.

However, Carrick confirms that Lisandro Martínez would miss out again as he serves the second match of a three-game suspension following his dismissal against Leeds United.

There was mixed news on the injury front. Patrick Dorgu continued to make progress in his recovery from a muscle problem but remained unavailable.

Carrick said: "Patrick's working his way back. He's making good progress and getting closer to training with us, which is positive."

Meanwhile, Leny Yoro faces a late fitness test after picking up a knock in training. The manager admitted his involvement was uncertain.

"We're still working on Leny. There's a possibility, but at this stage it's not one hundred per cent sure," Carrick explained.

Defender Matthijs de Ligt remained sidelined with a back issue that had kept him out since late November, leaving the squad slightly stretched in defence.

Carrick also highlighted the growing involvement of younger players, with academy talents included in training and recent matchday squads, underlining the club's depth during a demanding run-in.

With five matches remaining, Carrick's side sat within reach of securing Champions League qualification, needing a maximum of six points to confirm their place. The Brentford clash therefore carried significant weight, as the manager looked to balance returning experience with careful handling of injuries at a crucial stage of the season.
