Liverpool boss Arne Slot responds to Mohamed Salah's 'standards' comment

Tension appears to have resurfaced between Liverpool manager Arne Slot and star forward Mohamed Salah after fresh comments from the Egyptian reportedly angered the Dutch coach.

According to a report from The Times, Slot reacted badly to Salah's recent suggestion that standards at Anfield could decline once he departs the club this off-season.

"I did not hear him say that the standards are not OK now. Did you? If he goes all of a sudden [they will drop]... OK, as I just said... I'm not worried about it. At all.

"I'm not worried that the standards will be lower next season than they were this season, last season or the season before. No. I'm not worried. At all."

The remarks have added to speculation that relations between the pair remain strained despite previous signs of reconciliation.

Liverpool's campaign has been widely viewed as disappointing. After heavy investment in the previous transfer window, the Reds have slipped to fourth place in the league table and are now expected to end the season without silverware.

Salah's own dip in form has also been highlighted as one of the factors behind the club's struggles.

The latest disagreement follows earlier issues between the two figures during the campaign. Salah was dropped from the side earlier in the season, prompting the forward to publicly criticise Slot's decision.

Although the situation later appeared to calm down and Salah eventually returned to the starting line-up, the recent controversy suggests tensions may not have fully disappeared at Anfield.
