Liberia’s promise to Bafana – “They will suffer in Monrovia”

Liberia coach Ansumana Keita, who was buzzing with confidence following his side’s 2-2 draw against Bafana Bafana at Orlando Stadium on Friday night, has vowed to deliver a tactical masterstroke in the return leg.

The Leone Stars will host South Africa in Monrovia for the second leg of the two back-to-back Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers on Tuesday.

He insists that Bafana will “suffer”.

"What I'm telling you is the tactical strategy that we'll use to make South Africa suffer and make them know that we want to win. We are not going to joke; we are going to play. No matter what happens, we'll play. South Africa is bigger than us in football but we are more prepared than them this time," he said.

Keita told journalists after the match that Liberia had come to SA for a draw, but with the side playing in front of their home fans for the first time in three years the approach will not be as conservative as the first match.

"It has taken two or three years now since we have not played at home. Liberians are hungry, so the result of today could motivate them but trust me, by 08:00 or 09:00 in the morning, the stadium will be packed over there. The Liberians will be there to support their team," he added.

The coach celebrated like they’d won the match after Mohammed Sangare scored a stunning late equaliser. Keita says the point, which puts them in pole position to qualify for the Afcon alongside group leaders Morocco, was special.

"This is my first international game as the coach of Liberia and in my career. In my first game in my international career, playing a good team like South Africa, we planned to get a draw in South Africa. We knew it could be tough to beat them at home," he concluded.
