Hugo Broos reveals Bafana Bafana squad for Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers

Hugo Broos has announced his Bafana Bafana squad for the Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Liberia.

Broos faced some tough decisions in trimming his initial 35-man preliminary squad, but he has selected a strong attack to ensure the team secures maximum points.

Exciting players such as Cassius Mailula, Kobamelo Kodisang, and Thapelo Maseko made the preliminary squad, but only 23 players made the cut.

In-form Mamelodi Sundowns striker Cassius Mailula and Orlando Pirates' top scorer Monnapule Saleng are both in the final squad and are possible candidates for the PSL Footballer of the Season award.

The team comprises three goalkeepers: Ronwen Williams (Mamelodi Sundowns), Veli Mothwa (AmaZulu), and Ricardo Goss (SuperSport United), while the defence includes Nyiko Mobbie (Sekhukhune United), Siyanda Xulu (Turan-Tovuz IK, Azerbaijan), Innocent Maela (Orlando Pirates), Nkosinathi Sibisi (Orlando Pirates), Thapelo Morena (Mamelodi Sundowns), Aubrey Modiba (Mamelodi Sundowns), Grant Kekana (Mamelodi Sundowns), and Mothobi Mvala (Mamelodi Sundowns).

The midfielders are Njabulo Blom (St Louis City, USA), Teboho Mokoena (Mamelodi Sundowns), Luke Le Roux (Varberg Bois, Sweden), and Sphephelo Sithole (Belenenses, Portugal). Meanwhile, the forward line includes Monnapule Saleng (Orlando Pirates), Lyle Foster (Burnley, England), Mihlali Mayambela (Aris Limassol, Cyprus), Bongokuhle Hlongwane (Minnesota, USA), Themba Zwane (Mamelodi Sundowns), Zakhele Lepasa (SuperSport United), Percy Tau (Al Ahly, Egypt), and Cassius Mailula (Mamelodi Sundowns).

Overall, Broos has put together a strong and balanced team that should give South Africa a good chance of success in the upcoming qualifiers.
