Lee Langeveldt inspired to expand his businesses after PSL Transition Programme

Next year, Stellenbosch FC veteran goalkeeper Lee Langeveldt will be finishing 20 years as a professional footballer, and he believes that the PSL Transition Programme has just come at the right time for him.

Langeveldt was one of the 26 PSL players who graduated with a qualification from the Gibs Business School this week as part of this Transition Programme.

Back in 2005, he made his debut in the National First Division (NFD) at FC Fortune and later Cape United, Langeveldt knows the importance of this programme to footballers.

"There's life after football. As a footballer you focus just on your football, you know your good years are obviously coming to an end sooner or later but you don't really think about how to save money, especially. How to start a business, how to brand yourself while you're playing and I feel those are important to me, what we've learned in this programme," Langeveldt said.

Langeveldt reveals that he’s also in the hospitality and property business and after this Transition Programme, he’s looking to expand his business offerings.

"Yeah, that started like 10 years ago I bought a house and in the Stellies there's always a shortage of accommodation so I rented it out to students, I have a five-bedroom house, each room I rent out. So, that's one of my businesses. I also have a catering business that I'm busy running at the moment,” he added.

“This is what this programme provides, it adds value to things you didn't know, how can you improve? How can you save money to make more money and obviously to put your brand out there. How to do your branding of your business."

But Langeveldt will be remembered from his days at Santos, where he made his name in top-flight football from 2007 until 2014.

The 37-year-old jokingly says he would’ve easily been a millionaire by now if this Transition Programme was introduced earlier to his professional football career.
