The ABC Motsepe League side have a shot at a place in the Nedbank Cup quarterfinals when they face fellow amateur outfit Jacksa Spears on Sunday afternoon in Upington.
Speaking to SABC Sport, De Souza said he is acutely aware of the history and responsibility that come with wearing the Da Gama jersey.
"If anyone knows about the weight of the Vasco name, it would be me because I grew up playing there. I grew up watching Sibusiso Zuma play for Vasco, so ja, I mean this team deserves to be playing in the professional ranks of South African football. I feel like this year we have a very good chance to take it back to where they belong," said De Souza
The forward acknowledged the difficulty level in the lower tiers to gain promotion.
"Look, it is very difficult in the Western Cape. It is really difficult to win that league – it is very competitive. There are some ex-pros and a lot of good youngsters. Then you go to play-offs and play away during the play-offs – it is tough. South African football is South African football, and certain things happen that you can't explain. But look, this season we are aiming for the best."
With only one team from the Western Cape in the topflight, De Souza said there was an element of desperation to get a team back in the Betway Premiership.
De Souza added that there were no real expectations for the club to go further than they already have in the Nedbank Cup.
"I wouldn't say it's pressure. I think the Nedbank Cup is like a free hit – we don't really play with pressure because nobody expects us to win it or even reach the final. So, we are using it as a platform to showcase our talent and abilities. I don't think there's much pressure going into a game."
