6th August 2025
The tournament will be held in Johannesburg from 22 to 31 August, and the Lesotho side is placed in Group B, where they will face Gaborone United Ladies SC from Botswana and Young Buffaloes of Eswatini.
Speaking to SABC Sport, Mokhathi shares how excited they are to be competing on the continental stage for the first time.
"It is amazing and fulfilling that the Kick4Life academy gets to take part in this prestigious event. Everyone in the Kick4Life family is excited and firmly behind the team.
"This is something we have been building towards since our very first game in the 2024/2025 season," said the ecstatic Mokhati.
Double CAF Women’s Champions League winners Mamelodi Sundowns are placed in Group A where they will face Malawi’s Ntopwa FC, as well as debutants Beauties FC from Namibia and Zambia’s Zesco Ndola Girls.
In Group C, Herential Queens FC from Zimbabwe will take on Clube de Desportos da Costa do Sol of Mozambique and Olympic de Moroni from Comoros.
The former president of the Lesotho Women’s Football Committee says they will focus on preparing the players mentally for the tournament.
Mokhathi who also played for the Lesotho national women’s team says this achievement means the world to her and she hopes this will inspire the football associations to invest more in women’s football.
She also urges COSAFA to continue building the women’s game so there can be more competition in the region.
The Lesotho Women’s Super League champions also assisted in getting Mamelodi Sundowns’ top goal scorer, Boitumelo Rabale, a scholarship to play football and study in the USA, where she graduated with an Associate Degree from Lewis Clark College in Illinois.
Mokhathi believes that even though women’s football is growing in Lesotho, she does not think they are at a point where they can confidently compete on the world stage.
"We are seeing a significant increase in the number of girls playing the game, but we never really had that when I was a player.
"On the other hand, our football is not at that world-class level just yet."
