Kaizer Chiefs defender Njabulo Ngcobo in talks with AmaZulu

SABC Sport understands AmaZulu are currently in talks to lure defender Njabulo Ngcobo away from Kaizer Chiefs at the end of the 2023/24 season.

Ngcobo is understood to be weighing up his options as he continues to struggle for game-time at Naturena, having managed only six starts and four sub appearances this season.

Usuthu are believed to be among the teams wanting to secure his signature and, with his Chiefs contract ending in June, this could come as a bargain for the KwaZulu-Natal outfit.

According to FIFA Player Status and Transfer Regulations, the 29-year-old is already free to engage with interested parties as well as sign a pre-contract effective 1 July 2024.

The player's agent Sboniso Ngubane confirmed on Ukhozi FM that indeed Chiefs have not taken a decision on Ngcobo's future beyond the current campaign.

"Kaizer Chiefs is a professional club, they communicate about their intentions. Unfortunately, they have not said anything about Njabulo Ngcobo," Ngubane told SABC Sport.

Though he wouldn't confirm Ngcobo's next move, Ngubane further divulged discussions are underway with several teams in the DStv Premiership, with AmaZulu being one of them.

"We are in talks with different clubs in the DStv Premiership, including AmaZulu FC," he confirmed.

The former Moroka Swallows centre-back joined Amakhosi in July 2021, after a standout campaign in which The Dube Birds finished in sixth position and he subsequently won the PSL Defender of the Season gong.
