JDR Stars chairman-cum-coach eager but patient with promotion project

JDR Stars chairman Nditsheni Nemasisi, who is also coaching the Motsepe Foundation Championship outfit, says he will be patient with their aspirations of gaining promotion to the DStv Premiership.

Speaking ahead of an all-lower tier Nedbank Cup round of 32 tie against Hungry Lions this weekend, Nemasisi explains why he is in no rush, despite growing expectations for the team seen as good enough for the topflight.

''Part of me says I have overstayed, and the other part of me says  I need to pay my school fees and go through all the processes. Get prepared for the higher league as I was prepared in the ABC.''

"Taking you a bit back, JDR - when I bought the status in the SAB we only spent one season there and we got promoted, stayed about 6 seasons in the ABC,'' said Nemasisi.

The Nedbank Cup could be a slight distraction, but Nemasisi is rather hoping it spurs JDR Stars on to chase the ultimate goal.

They are currently in ninth place after 19 matches – nine points adrift of log leaders University of Pretoria.

''With the experience that I have, I'm not worried. Where we are sitting - it's the best position to fight from. No pressure, no one is talking about you, but when you look at the points difference - it's basically nothing.''

''A good run of  three games or so takes us back in contention for promotion. This is the season I think we have to fight very hard to get promoted,'' added Nemasisi.

To gain promotion would further enhance JDR’s status in the PSL, moving them from a R500 000 a month grant to just over R2-million a month from the League.

Nemasisi says he has a plan.

''I know what I have to do to get promoted - however it is not going to be easy, we've got very competitive teams,'' he concluded.

AmaTuks, Magesi FC and Orbit College are favourites at the moment in the race for a spot in the topflight.

Nemasisi knows what he is up against, but also pleads for sponsorship for the second tier of SA football.
