van Wyk will be starting a new journey with a Swedish club, Kristianstads DFF, as assistant coach next season.
Speaking to SABC Sport, Van Wyk adds that the frontrunner for the JVW head coach position is her assistant Alexia Cassar, and that's because she already understands the team culture.
“I am still quite hesitant to bring a new coach into the system. I am looking more into my assistant coach stepping up into the head coach role, and one of my players to be in the assistant coach role, that’s because they already understand the system - and this will help keep things steady and stable for next season,’’ said Van Wyk.
Cassar is one of the long-standing employees at the Bedfordview outfit, having joined
in 2012 - serving as a player and a reserve team coach since.
“She knows the values of the team and has seen how we worked to get the team where it is currently. She knows the standard of JVW, and I believe the right people to lead JVW are the people who already understand the club and its culture,” added Van Wyk.
The Johannesburg outfit has enjoyed great strides of improvement this season, finding
themselves chasing a top-three finish, and Van Wyk says allowing players some freedom always translates to success on the field.
“I have a good relationship with the players. At JVW, we are all equal, and we know that there is time for everything - time to focus on work and time to enjoy. So I give them the freedom to express themselves, and I just want to see that continue even in the new season,” she concluded.
