The Moroccan tactician was appointed shortly after the recent FIFA international break in March to see out the remainder of the season, replacing Alexandra Lafitte, who was dismissed for alleged insubordination.
Gallants were also struggling to pick points in the Betway Premiership, making it easier for the club to sideline the young Frenchman.
Benouahi’s only game at the helm ended in a 3-0 defeat away to Magesi FC in Seshego, a result that is understood to have triggered concern within the club as it dragged them further into the relegation dogfight.
Despite being listed on official team sheets for subsequent fixtures, Benouahi was notably absent from the dugout. He was not on the bench against Orbit College, watched the Free State derby against Siwelele FC from the stands and did not travel with the squad for their clash against Sekhukhune United over the weekend.
All three matches were draws.
Prior to his appointment, Benouahi had been serving as a technical advisor while the club navigated its legal dispute with Lafitte, with former captain Trevor Mathiane stepping in as interim coach.
Indications are that both parties are now engaged in discussions with their respective representatives, with a separation appearing imminent.
Contacted for comment Gallants chairman Abram Sello referred all queries to club spokesperson Sello Nduna, however an official statement from the club was not forthcoming at the time of publishing.
