Makhubu was one of Hunt’s January signings coming from Sekhukhune United, in a very busy transfer window for the Winelands side.
Although Devin Titus received the Man-of-the-Match honours after a glorious first half strike that won them the game, Hunt admitted that the 29-year-old was key in toppling the defending champions.
"For me the man of the match was Wonderboy Makhubu, I thought he was outstanding. That was a proper striker leading the line and then he could've scored at the end but he didn't.
"A lot of players are not match fit, especially the new guys that have come in."
While Hunt was obviously happy with the win, he warned his team not to not get too cocky from the result, with a league game coming up against the same opposition on February 18.
He also made a surprising claim about Chiefs’ chances of winning the title this season.
"I don't believe in confidence, I think it's a myth. Confidence can disappear very quickly as well so we have to be focused for the next game.
"We play Chiefs in 2/3 weeks time again and they'll certainly want to get one over us. They could win the league this year, really they could. Chiefs have got a good squad of players, they're a good team with a lot of pace and so much creativity in the final third.
"The feeling of confidence lasts 20 minutes, it's gone now and now we have to focus on the next game."
There were two penalties in the match - one for each side - and Hunt didn’t really have any complaints about either. He admitted that there was a handball in the box that gave Amakhosi some hope of getting back into the game in the second half.
He also gave an update on defender Thabo Moloisane, who took a boot to the face to earn Stellies a spot kick with less than 10 minutes played.
The Bafana Bafana international was replaced by Henri Stanic.
"I'm not a doctor, and we never had doctors in our day so when you got a bang on the head, you carried on playing. He got a kick to the head, and the doctor said he doesn't know where or who he is. I said, 'tell him he's Pele he might play better'.
"He had to come off..."
