Hugo Broos shrugs off social media leak ahead of Mexico clash

Bafana Bafana coach Hugo Broos says he is not overly concerned with footage from their behind-closed-doors friendly against Jamaica found its way onto social media.

The Belgian had instructed that no outsiders be granted access to the match, which served as the team's final preparation fixture ahead of Thursday's FIFA World Cup opener against co-hosts Mexico.

Despite the stringent measures, clips from the game surfaced online less than 24 hours later but Broos said it was not entirely unexpected in the modern era.

"There were some highlights or whatever on social media that was also a surprise for me, so I don't know how those people came in the stadium," said Broos.

"I can understand it and it's not really a surprise for me because it's also important for Mexico to know how we played and what we did in that game.

"So there has been someone who took those pictures and maybe there was someone who [recorded] the whole game, I don't know.

"But that doesn't bother me, I think the coach of Mexico doesn't need that game [against Jamaica], and I also don't need a game that Mexico might play behind closed doors.

"Because I know enough about Mexico and I saw enough games of them, so those things are happening but, again, it doesn't bother me."

Bafana played to a 1-1 draw against Jamiaca and the coach’s honest assessment was that they still have their work cut out before the Group A opener in just three days’ time.

"I have to be honest, I was not happy with the performance – maybe, and that was certainly also a reason, we still need a few more days to adapt at the high altitude," he added.

"I saw players who couldn't do their efforts anymore that they wanted to do, so that is certainly because of the high altitude here, but again, this is not really a problem. I'm sure that with four days still remaining, we will be ready for the game on Thursday."
