Smythe-Lowe, who is based in Portugal and also eligible to represent the Seleção should be wish, was named Goalkeeper of the Tournament after South Africa won the U20 AFCON in Cairo earlier this month.
To end speculation, the Belgian tactician confirmed the 18-year-old's impressive performances have made him take notice, and is an answer to a long-standing dilemma he has been faced with in the Premier Soccer League.
"First of all, we looked in the PSL and it's amazing that in some clubs, number one, number two, and number three are foreign goalkeepers – this is unbelievable," repeated the coach.
"How can we find a young goalkeeper? I think eight or nine of the [Betway Premiership] clubs have foreign goalkeepers as number, and in some cases number one and two.
"So it's very difficult to find them, and we had in the preliminary selection Leaner and [Darren] Johnson – ok, those guys are 27-28, it's not old, but I am looking more towards young, 22-23-year-olds.
"And therefore I'm so happy with the U-20 goalkeeper [Smyth-Lowe] – he had a fantastic tournament, so this is a guy we have to watch in the future and he will be with us, I can assure you, we will wait now until after the [U20] World Cup, but then he will be with us.
"This is a guy who has to be with Bafana Bafana, and it's a little bit of a pity that we don't find some more of such guys, maybe not with that [level of] talent but goalkeepers of 23-24 years old who are playing – it's very difficult to find in South Africa."
