How adaptation has delayed Christian Saile in the PSL

Kaizer Chiefs and Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) international attacker Christian Saile has explained why he has not been prolific in front of the goalposts in the Premier Soccer League (PSL) as he was in Zambia.

Saile, who joined Chiefs from Zambian Super League side Nchanga Rangers at the beginning of this year, has so far scored only four goals and provided one assist.

At Rangers, Saile scored 19 goals and provided 12 assists, a direct contribution of 31 goals.

He admits that he’s found the PSL tougher and still needs to adapt properly and find his feet.

"Obviously the leagues aren't the same, the PSL is a bit difficult. I just need a little more time to adapt and I feel like I'm getting there but I'm working hard to start scoring goals and getting the confidence," Saile said.

Saile says in Zambia it was also easy for him to find the back of the net because of the brand of football which suited his hard running style as they mainly play on a counter as compared to here in the PSL, where possession football is dominant.

"There's a big difference between the way we play here and in Zambia. In Zambia it's a lot of running and a lot of counterattacks. Here it's more possessional football and you have to avail yourself properly, over there the defender sometimes gives you the ball to score," said added.

Earlier this season, when the fans were not happy with the performance of the club during the short stint of Molefi Ntseki as the head coach, they would vent their anger towards Saile in particular and other strikers.

He responds as to how he dealt with the pressure which appeared to be too personal and also weighs on the technical changes brought by the arrival of acting head coach Cavin Johnson.

"Obviously we are a big team with a lot of supporters and that comes with pressure but we must do our best to give the supporters what they want. We've changed coaches and obviously it will be different but we just have to carry on."
