Hands off Khuliso Mudau - Rulani Mokwena

Mamelodi Sundowns coach Rulani Mokwena has said defender Khuliso Mudau is not for sale as speculation around his future gains momentum.

The Bafana Bafana international has recently been linked to English Premier League outfit Burnley, but his current club coach refuses to acknowledge the interest as genuine – for now.

"It's a very difficult question you ask me because the Sundowns coach says Sailor is going nowhere because I'm very selfish. We need our best players and we are not a selling club and that's very clear," Mokwena said.

Mokwena compared the scenario to that of striker Cassius Mailula, who has since joined Toronto FC in the USA’s Major League Soccer for a fee believed to be around R30-million prior to the start of the season.

The coach didn’t want to let go, but ultimately the decision was out of his hands.

"The human being that understands that life is about goals and there's targets that people have. It's the same way I dealt with Cassius’ situation and as difficult as it was to let go of Cassius but when there's big opportunities and there's possibilities for growth and it makes sense for all parties involved, Sundowns included but I can't entertain it at the moment because it's just talk and there's nothing on the table at the moment," Mokwena added.

As reported by SABC Sport five months ago, Mudau was handed a new contract stretching until June 2027 following his 2022/23 Defender of the Season accolade.

Mokwena reiterated again how big of a player ‘Sailor’ is to his side.

"He's an unbelievable football player and he's an incredible human being, Sailor. He's such a kind-hearted soul and a very important part of our team, very, very important part of our team. So, it's difficult to entertain those types of talks because it's just talks and there's nothing concrete."
