The striker was speaking to SABC Sport just before training yesterday afternoon in Pretoria, as they prepare for the crunch CAF Champions League first leg final against Mamelodi Sundowns on Saturday.
Mayele says that for now, the priority is to help his team win the final, but he’s not denying the Chiefs link.
"My focus is on the team and helping Pyramids win the final, and after the final, everyone is free to talk and speculate. Nasredine Nabi was in contact with me in December, but now is not the moment to talk about it," said Mayele.
Mayele is a key member of this Pyramids team, having scored eight goals in just 11 matches in the Champions League this season, and getting him away from Pyramids will not cost less than R20 million.
It was Mayele’s brace that ended Orlando Pirates’ hopes in the semifinals, as they won 3-2, after having twice come from behind in that game. The DRC international is hoping to start where he finished off against Pirates.
"I was very happy to score the last goal against Orlando Pirates, but I'm also happy to help the team in any way I can in what will be the first CAF Champions League final for Pyramids.
Pyramids are also busy contesting the league title back home in Egypt, and with only one game left in the campaign, they are two points behind log leaders Al Ahly. This puts a lot of pressure on them, but Mayele trusts his goals to do the business.
