Exclusive: Namibia legend Vewe Kotjipati calls time on international career

Namibia women’s national team defender Vewe Kotjipati has confirmed to SABC Sport her decision to retire from international football.

Kotjipati, who has represented the Brave Gladiators since she was a teenager, leaves at the age of 33, having also enjoyed the opportunity to play abroad.

She has plied her trade in Germany for more than a decade, playing for Arminia Bielefeld, Borussia Mönchengladbach II and currently with FC St. Pauli.

Kotjipati says she is grateful for the opportunity she was given and will now shift her focus to just club football.

“It’s definitely a mix of emotions. Representing Namibia has been one of the greatest honours of my life, something I have dedicated so much time and heart to,” Kotjipati told the public broadcaster.

“It’s not easy to say goodbye to a chapter that has shaped me so deeply, but I do so with immense gratitude. Every game, every challenge, and every teammate has taught me something valuable.

“Now, it feels like the right moment to step aside and allow life to open new doors, both on and off the field.”

The 33-year-old also works as a teacher in Germany while juggling her own career as a player and is eager to give back to women’s football in her homeland.

“I just want to say thank you to everybody that loves and believes in me. I am so overwhelmed with so many feelings and so grateful to God for so many opportunities.

“Also, to you, thank you [SABC Sport] for being there and showing interest in my career.

“I would also love to see myself become part of the people that pushes the growth of women’s football in Africa. One day I would love to give back to the continent and particularly my beautiful country Namibia."
