Durban City aiming to bounce back quickly after five-goal setback

Durban City interim coach Pitso Dladla says it is unlike his side to concede so many goals, but they allowed Magesi FC to dominate and dictate terms in the early stages of the game.

Dladla was speaking after his side were hammered 5-2 in a Betway Premiership encounter at Seshego Stadium on Sunday afternoon.

The coach says throughout the game his team tried to mount a comeback, but it was not to be.

"Firstly, the scoreline is unlike us, we don't [concede] so many goals. I don't think we started the game very well, in the first 5-10 minutes we were not there," said Dladla.

"We allowed Magesi to be all over us up until they score the goal, and if I'm not mistaken I think they scored around the 10th minute, and we spoke to the boys, 'Let us come back into the game, let's believe in ourselves and let's show our identity.'

"Luckily we equalised to make it 1-1, and from there we thought we controlled the game and they score the second and third goals – I don't want to go deeper in how we conceded those goals, it's something we will deal with internally."

Durban City saw themselves trailing 3-2 at half-time before Magesi added two more goals without reply in the second half, and Dladla summed it up by saying it was just a bad night.

"At half-time, we sat down and identified our challenges and we all agreed on what we would do in the second half and, again, when you're desperate, you play like that and we conceded the fourth goal," he continued.

"We believed in ourselves, kept on going and conceded the fifth goal, and from there we also tried – the game just became open, and I would say a bad night for Durban City FC."
