Dondol Stars accept they could be raided for players

Dondol Stars co-coach Khuliso Rashamuse says they accept the likelihood of losing their top players to more established clubs.

With their fairytale Nedbank Cup run ending in the quarterfinals against Orlando Pirates on Saturday, a few of the Dondol players would have made their mark.

The ABC Motsepe League side will prioritise their players’ development.

"Dondol Stars advocates for player development. We don't stand in front of players' opportunities. For example, you know Lesedi Kapinga is a Dondol Stars product. Senzo Nkwanyane is now playing for Sikhukhune but I think he's loaned out. He's also a Dondol Stars protege and a couple of other players," Rashamuse said.

Dondol being an amateur team means their players are effectively free agents at the end of the season. Rashamuse says they can move on if the grass is greener elsewhere.

"The chairman believes in creating chances and getting people a better life and future in football. I think this tournament (The Nedbank Cup) is mainly for that as well. If you play against SuperSport and you beat them 2-1, you go an extra mile with AmaZulu one, two, or three players will be scouted and that's what we want," he explained.

Dondol’s main target is the National First Division play-offs.

They lead the race in the ABC Motsepe League Gauteng stream with three games to go, and the cup run could set the tone.

"I think this will give us great momentum, and motivation because remember we are number one, in the Motsepe League in Gauteng. I think it's going to come in handy as a motivation for us going forward," Rashamuse insisted.
