Dominic Isaacs: 'Schoolboy errors in defence costing Chiefs big time'

Former Kaizer Chiefs defender Dominic Isaacs has blamed basic "schoolboy errors" made in defence as the reason behind their loss to Arrows.

Despite leading 2-1, Chiefs ended up losing the match 3-2 due to poor defensive play.

Isaacs explained in an interview with KickOff, "The day they commit fewer errors at the back is the day they will gain confidence as a team. They need to commit fewer errors at the back. These schoolboy errors are costing them."

He went on to stress that the team needs to work on their defence and cut down on errors in order to boost the confidence of their attackers. "The individual errors have been Kaizer Chiefs' Achilles for the last few years," he added.

Regarding the substitution of both Mduduzi Shabalala and Bonfils-Caleb Bimenyimana while leading 2-1, Isaacs suggested that the players on the field should have pulled together to defend the lead. "When you lead 2-1, you can't blame the coach. Why are we always blaming the coach?"

Isaacs continued, "The coach is not playing the 90 minutes. His job is done after the last training session, and the rest is up to the players. The Chiefs players should have done much better."

Chiefs will face Orlando Pirates in the Soweto derby at FNB Stadium on Saturday afternoon.
